In 2007, The Korean Society of Sydney approached a number of 2nd generation of Korean-Australians. Their objective was to initiate a leadership conversation group, to encourage young people to create and develop a unified voice within the broader Australian Community.
KAY Leaders was founded in 2009 with a vision to bring together and encourage wider social and political participation of Young Korean Australians. KAY Leaders also aims to promote their leadership skills, with the purpose of fostering a future generation of leaders within our communities. With the strong support of Mr William Seung and Ms Vivian Pak, the then President and Vice-President of the Korean Society of Sydney, KAY Leaders hosted its first event, the Youth Symposium at the Wesley Centre, Sydney in 2009. Soon after this maiden event, KAY Leaders was formally incorporated as a registered association in NSW and officially inaugurated at NSW Parliament House in the presence of prominent political and community leaders including the Hon. Bob Carr, who gave a keynote speech at the Inauguration. KAY Leaders has since hosted leadership symposiums, career workshops, charity fundraisers as well as networking events designed to further the organisation’s purpose and objectives. KAY Leaders is supported through its members and by the Overseas Korean Foundation.
